SDX/DC Seeks Applicants for 2012 Scholarships

The Sigma Delta Chi Foundation of Washington, D.C., is accepting applications for its 2012 scholarships from undergraduate students attending colleges and universities in the Washington, D.C. area.

All applicants must show a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in journalism and must be a rising sophomore or junior in the summer of 2012.

Last year more than $20,000 was awarded.

All applications, and required supporting documents, must be postmarked or email stamped by March 15, 2012.

The SDX/DC Foundation, started in 1962, has awarded some 200 scholarships to help aspiring journalists attending college in the Washington, D.C., area. Scholarships pay for tuition, books and other college-related expenses.

Past scholarship recipients have come from all over the nation to study at Washington, D.C.- area colleges, bringing their passion for journalism with them. Students apply directly to the foundation for a scholarship. Applicants must show an ongoing interest in journalism and pass a rigorous interview by a panel of journalism veterans.

Past recipients hold a variety of jobs at news organizations across the country.

The recipients of the scholarships will be named in May 2012.
